Story Description
Step into a neon-drenched cyberpunk city where Vixi—a quiet tech genius—prefers fixing arcade machines to seeking the spotlight. Despite her reserved nature, she becomes the unexpected bond that unites four remarkable friends: Roxi, a pressured social star yearning for genuine connection; Kiki, an unstoppable arcade champion with an unyielding spirit; Sunni, a gentle peacekeeper concealing her inner storms; and Speedi, a fearless risk-taker learning to slow down.
When three ruthless bullies trap Vixi in a virtual reality nightmare, her friends dive headfirst into the digital battleground, proving that while Vixi may work alone, she never has to fight alone.

Each page bursts with dynamic storytelling and stunning artwork that captures the essence of transformation, courage, and unity.
When I read the summary of the comic book, it wasn't what I thought it would be. I don't know what I expected, maybe an extension of the FUTW MV where VIXI has four other personalities and is ruling over a city? But I was definitely not expecting five completely different women meeting and becoming friends.
Still, I had to admit that not a lot of artists decide to create a comic book to go with their album. I thought the idea was original and the summary of the story sounded promising, which is why I decided to buy it.
I received the comic book yesterday and at first glance, I was extatic! The quality of the cover and the pages is top tier, MinoMiyabi's art is absolutely stunning and the art prints look beautiful.
Then I read it.
I'm not going to lie, even if it's supposed to be a one-shot, I still think the plot is a little lacking. I understand that you can't create a very detailed story with only 50 pages, but I would've wanted to see more. Why is the city so "broken"? Why do these "three bullies" want to kill VIXI? I would've wanted to know more about the other women than what was written in the summary, not just flashbacks. And the dialogues… Sometimes, they don't make any sense. Some words are even missing.
In the end, I did enjoy myself! I'm still happy to have bought it, and if Lisa ever decides to make figurines, you can be sure I will jump on the occasion to buy my favorite alter ego's. Or just all of them!
The best. So proud of you LISA
The artstyle is very impressive, but my low review goes towards the narrative itself.
I had high hopes for this comic because the ALTER EGO concept is so refreshing. Instead, the characters were briefly explained with no real depth or way to connect with the reader, so it gives the feel that they were just there for "the aesthetics."
The story doesn't challenge these characters beyond one action scene and stays on surface level. I want to know why the city is TRULY broken. The story introduced some thugs in a video game scenario. Okay. Why do they want to hurt VIXI? What's their intention? What did VIXI do? They're just evil?
I thought the five characters would merge in the machine and become one (Lisa) but nope. It just became a fairytale story about friendship, though it doesn't make sense that these characters are separate people because they're... alter egos.
So how do we improve the story? First, introduce a single character. Lisa. She has this normal life but feels heartbroken for the city. Crime is at an all time high in Lisa's neighborhood and she's getting sick of being a bystander. But what can she do? She's just an average girl.
Keep showing aspects of Lisa's normal life. But write her in a way she acts differently in certain places or with certain people. Let's say, when she's driving, she likes racing and ignores all traffic rules (Speedi). When she does her hobbie of singing at a bar late at night, her attitude changes to a complete rockstar (Roxi). When she's partying, she becomes a total diva and doesn't care about anyone's opinions (Kiki). Her "default" self at her usual office job is a bright and sweet girl (Sunni).
Lisa (Sunni) starts getting close with some coworkers and Lisa once invites them to one of her gigs. They're surprised to see Lisa (as Roxi) screaming on stage, yelling at the audience something punk. Lisa offers to drive her coworkers home since they've had a few drinks, but they become terrified when Lisa (Speedi) is passing every red light and going over the speed limit. Situations like that.
That day, on Lisa's way home, she sees a flashy light in the distance. Picture that this a Tuesday night, there should be no parties, especially not in this shady neighborhood. Her curiosity got the best of her and Lisa stumbles into the middle of a experiment. Her curious self, the one heartbroken by the city, the one with a sense of justice is born. Vixi.
She gains 5 powers corresponding to her alter egos and fights crime. In this case, let's use a reference from FUTW music video. AE Chemicals. They pollute the planet and experiment on the poor to merge them and get super humans (like Lisa). So this becomes Lisa's journey on taking down AE Chemicals.
If you're still here, I hope you enjoyed my take on ALTER EGO.
I love the colors and the connections between her egos as her best friends I just wish there was more depth into each character and new neon city
